Go afterwards -- I don't want a bunch of depressed Civil War reenactors at the Symposium. A couple of hours at Antietam is enough to make anyone into a pacifist. OK, right, maybe we should all go. |

My great great grandfather fought and as wounded at Fredricksburg, is that near bye? he was in the Irish brigade and was hit in the throat by a ball. The doctors were amazed to witness food fall out of the hole when he ate. This fact was duely noted for purposes of medical science. |

Gettysburg is also close to Westminster. Here is a site that has hand drawn maps that shows the movements of armies for the various battles. It is part of the National Park System. It is not exhaustive but the images all show just how near Westminster many of the battles were fought. http://www.pueblo.gsa.gov/cic_text/misc/civilwar/civilwar.ht m |

Fredricksburg is on the south side of the Patomac in Va. The Irish Brigade's charge at the Stone Wall is one of the most famous charges of the War (commanded by Mahr who was killed). The troops on other side of the wall, Confederate, were also Irish. |
